The short version
Balise has no accounts, no ads, no analytics trackers. Your tracks, recordings and settings stay on your iPhone. We run no servers that store your data — by design.
Your data in the app
Imported GPX files, recorded outings and your preferences are stored locally, on your device. They only leave it when you share them yourself.
Location
Your position is used on-device for navigation and recording, including in the background during an active session. It is never sent to Makkr — we have nothing to receive it with.
Network requests
The basemap is served by OpenFreeMap: your device requests map tiles, which technically exposes your IP address and the viewed areas to that service, as with any website.
If you draw or repair a track, the points to route are sent to the BRouter service (brouter.de) to compute the itinerary. No personal identifier is attached.
This website
This site uses no cookies and no trackers. The hosting provider keeps technical logs (IP address, browser) for a short time, for security purposes.
Your rights
GDPR: as we hold no personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to rectify or erase — but write to us with any question, and you may lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
